Harvard Business Review – When you shouldn’t go global

Article of HBR available here: http://hbr.org/2008/12/when-you-shouldnt-go-global/ar/1

This article examines the strategies of corporate globalization and shows that in some situations, such a strategy may be counter-productive.

Both authors examine the choices and strategic determinants that enable a successful internationalization strategy: the actual profitability of such an expansion, the existence of a portfolio of resources and skills to offset the costs of internationalization. They also show that, depending on the industry, the challenges of internationalization are different.
